Breathing definition 1: The bodily process of inhalation and exhalation; the process of taking in oxygen from inhaled air and releasing carbon dioxide by exhalation.
Breathing definition 2: Passing or able to pass air in and out of the lungs normally; sometimes used in combination.
In the book "Ch'i The Power Within" the author, describe in more details about the importance of breathing control. "To The average person, respiration is the effortless, automatic process of breathing in and breathing out , neither helped, nor hindered(interrupted) by further knowledge or confusion. You breathe in fresh air and breathe out 'stale (dusty)' air.
It is what your biology teacher called oxygen inhalation (or inspiration) and carbon dioxide exhalation (or respiration). Not many of us know or care much more than that. We take it for granted that this, along with other vital functions of the body, keeps alive without our even being conscious of it. There is a lot more to your lungs than two bags going up and down, day and night, sleep or awake. For instance, the right lung has three separate compartments and the left lung has two. The lower lobe, which you could say is very bottom of the barrel, hardly gets used at all in normal shallow breathing (a no deep breathing). It (lobe) should be regularly accessed, emptied of stagnant (passive) air and refilled afresh." After reading the above paragraph, it is clear to see a bit about how our lungs are composed of. Without talking about the biological function of our lungs and its capacity, we should at least bear in mind about the importance of breathing control and how to breathe properly. He also mention that "We may not know it but, but we breathe in two distinctly different ways for two totally different purposes, both at the same time. Air does not just enter and leave the lungs (known as external respiration), it also distributes oxygen throughout the body via the bloodstream, unlocking the doors of energy cells; this is known as internal respiration or tissue breathing. "

The author gave us an understanding about what is happening inside our body when we breathe air inside (known as the "IN" process). The air that we breathe in does a lot more of things that most of us are not aware of it.
The distribution of oxygen inside our entire body with the help of our bloodstream, allow our cells to have enough supply of energy and perform any task whether physical, spiritual, moral, thoughts, ideas generation and anything else. Because, when we think, as human being we still producing energy. In her book "The Science of Allah", Sallina Ismail stated that "There are 7 laws that govern the universe and is used as guidelines in our everyday life that results in a behaviour that will enhance our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual growth. God’s laws are all inter-related and are founded on understanding that everything in the universe is energy. Just like the universe, our body which is world consciousness is also composed of a spectrum of vibratory rates, or feelings. We are a whirling mass of electrons and energy atoms spinning rapidly whether we are conscious or unconscious about it. Everything in the world is comprised of energy and everything around us, including us (human being) are intimately connected with this profound sea of energy. “He constructed the universe and established its laws. Do not transgress this laws!” (Quran55:7-8).”
And the first law which is the law of vibration and resonance Sallina Ismail stated that “This law state that everything in the Universe moves, vibrates, pulsates and travels. Everything around us is motion divinely calculated. This vibration exist in our physical perspective but also in our thoughts, feelings, desires, and emotions. Each sound, thing, and even thought has its own vibrational frequency and rhythm unique unto itself. Everything is energy and everything we do or think, we still using energy." It is said in some other sources that when you produce a much energized idea(thought) it is more likely that the thing you have thought about will 99% manifest. Strong energized idea lead to confident actions. In this law she alert us about the kind of energy we produce every second in our life. We as owner of our thought might decide the kind of thought energy we want to send and receive into our mind, whether positive or negative. Successful person always regenerate powerful positive thought which will manifest inside their mind and produce amazing output in their life while failure often produce negative thoughts such us can’t, not possible, don’t think so, I'm not sure, I don't feel it… which will always produce back negative responses.
Those 7 laws of the universe are:
2- The Law of Resonance (Frequency)
3-The Law of polarity (mutual opposition)
4-The Law of relativity (comparative)
5-The Law of cause and effect (do and receive)
"Whatever misfortune happens to you, is because on the things your hands have wrought". (Quran 42:30)
6-The Law of Growth (seed to fruit)
7-The law of Abundance (the nature is vast)
On the other hand, Back to the Ch'i the power within, the author also said that "We know our main source of energy comes from the sun. It is absorbed, trapped and banked for our benefit in all green plant life: grains, cereals, fruit and vegetables. No matter how hard we may try it is refine, process, boil and bother the life out of it, we end up with enough left to keep us going. This is excellent reason for increasing our intake of fresh greens, raw vegetables and fruit. We also know that our bodies are made up of countless cells. What we may not know is that each cell stores a number of tiny 'powerhouses' called mitochondria , which have only become visible with the development of the world's most advanced electron microscopes. The road-shaped mitochondria contain enzymes necessary to break down sugar and store it until it is needed. Oxygen is transported into the bloodstream via the capillary network. This is the internal respiration, which acts as a trigger mechanism. It is easy to see how and why our general health and physical well-being are directly linked to our capacity to breathe properly and to let the mitochondria do their work. This ability to control the process of breathing, to distribute oxygen to all parts of the body, to concentrate and release this power supply at will, is what the Chinese masters call ch'i (Qi). Qi means "physical power and is associated with health improvement and body conditioning."
In our discussion however, we are not going to talk deep about this Chinese mystical power of Qi. Instead, we are more interested about the importance of breathing control. The awareness of the IN (as Inhalation) and OUT (as Exhalation) when this natural process of human being is controlled. The author of the "Ch'i power within" went deeply and explained the process that is happening inside our body while breathing. He talk in details about the organs that are in process of breathing and cover many biological areas. Besides, when you take a moment as you are reading this line right now. Stop for a seconds... and now make yourself aware of your breathing and follow your own inhalation and exhalation for 6 times and try at your best to focus on it. Let's try. BREATH IN - BREATH OUT(remember breathing AWARENESS) ; BREATH IN - BREATH OUT ; BREATH IN - BREATH OUT ; BREATH IN - BREATH OUT ; BREATH IN - BREATH OUT ; BREATH IN - BREATH OUT . This is the very basic process in controlling your breathing. This is what I mean by "breathing awareness", because of the fact that you are completely and fully aware of your inhalation and exhalation process. It very easy and simple process but its benefits are countless. for a second time, give yourself a chance to do this again 6 times like before and make sure you really focus on it and do your very best not to be distracted but anything. Here we go again: BREATH IN - BREATH OUT ; BREATH IN - BREATH OUT ; BREATH IN - BREATH OUT ; BREATH IN - BREATH OUT ; BREATH IN - BREATH OUT ; BREATH IN - BREATH OUT . How do you feel? Perhaps you don't feel anything but when you keep on practicing you will become addicted to it because it is so NICE. You do not have to put too much effort to do this. You just have to follow the flow for your breathing pattern, your habitual breathing pattern but just be aware of it. Practice this at anywhere, anytime and any moment because you are BREATHING as you are ALIVE. If not you would be died by now.
Furthermore, as I mentioned earlier, breathing awareness is the step 1 to start controlling our breathing which will lead to relaxation and focus. "Ch'i is usually referred to as "intrinsic energy" ". But what is intrinsic energy? Most dictionaries describe the word 'intrinsic' as (inherent, essential, belonging naturally by its very nature) and the word 'energy' as (force, vigour, individual powers in exercise, dynamic ability, source of usable power). A reasonable interpretation, then, would be: A natural and essential power or force inherent within the individual and motivated by dynamic exercises.
Probably the simplest and most accurate description of Ch'i is air pressure. Every movement or inner function of the human body, voluntary or involuntary, is brought about by manipulation of the muscles, which is impossible without internal air pressure. Bodily motion, no matter how insignificant, would cease without it. Active circulation of fresh blood, utterly essential to health tissue, is stimulated and regulated by this inner air pressure (tissue breathing) or degenerated and weakened by the lack of it. Regulating breathing or breath control is the basic aim of any athlete. Any endeavour that calls for excessive bursts (abounds) of energy or the storing and expanding of reserve power under extreme physical effort has as its most important requirement controlled breathing."
Finally, we are going to talk about the exploitation of the breathing patterns. In his book Geoff Pike exploited the three types of breathing:
2. Middle breathing
3. Deep, or complete, breathing.
A- "In shallow breathing, only the top compartment (one-third) of the lung is used for fresh intake of air, the other two-thirds are left to stew in the stale (Lacking freshness) of air from your last exertion, and perhaps the smoke from countless cigarettes."
B- "In middle breathing or perhaps we should call it 'ordinary' breathing, uses half or two-thirds of the lung capacity but still leaves the lower compartment untouched, especially the extra lobe of the left lung which hardly ever gets cleaned out and refilled at all ( this area if often the beginning of trouble) . At least middle breathing makes for a better balance of oxygen, supplies more energy and helps purify the blood. It is usually the physical worker, forced to tale enough air to cope with his/her task, or the normal exerciser who unconsciously practice middle breathing (physical training for example) ".
C- Deep or complete breathing is obviously the way we were meant to breathe. If not, our lungs would only be small than they are. But they are not. They are there to be completely and continually filled with fresh air and emptied 'Not practical', you may say 'How can I sit at my desk doing deep breathing all day?' And, of course, you'd be right. We cannot consciously practise the complete breath throughout our daily routine, and deep breathing is a conscious effort, until it becomes second nature"
Deep breathing video
To sum up, as human being been able to control our breathing pattern enhance a strong and healthy unique lifestyle. We become free from stress, find lot more focus in our daily activities, and the blood circulation become smooth to name just a few. There are lots more exercises that people do for breathing control such as Tai chi, Qi gong, and so on and this will give one other extra benefits such stamina, strength, fast self injury healing , explosiveness, power and of course countless benefits.

And the best time to practice breathing exercises is believed to be on early morning before the sun rise . But as a beginner it is better to practice the breathing awareness BREATH IN / BREATH OUT technique explained above as many count as you can (when doing this you cannot fully focus on it 100% . You will be distracted from other thoughts in your mind but just keep trying to take back control of your breath because that's the reason you are practicing, by the time distraction will start reducing. If possible set an alarm or set a target number to reach count until 10,20, 30, 40, 50 or above is best).
