The Tenets of Taekwondo

The philosophy of Taekwondo is very special, but what makes it so special? If we learn philosophy from books, we tend to forget it as soon as we leave them, because its understanding is a bit complicated and not easy to relate with life. Taekwondo on the other hand, are simple and easy to understand , accept and follow. Martial arts is something one can let go easily if your heat is touched by its love. br>

The Principals Of Taekwondo

  1. Courtesy (Ye Ui)

  2. Taekwon-Do students should attempt to be polite to one another and to respect others. Students should address instructors as Sir and to bow to the instructors before and after classes. Turning up early or on time for classes is also an aspect of courtesy.

  3. Integrity (Yom Chi)

  4. One who has integrity is able to define what is right or wrong and have the conscience, if wrong, to feel guilt. Taekwon-Do students should strive to be honest and to live by moral principles.

  5. Perseverance (In Nae)

  6. Perseverance means having patience. One of the most important secrets of becoming successful in TaekwonDo is to overcome every difficulty by perseverance.Sticking with it. Keeping on going.
Confucius said," One who is impatient in trivial matters can seldom achieve success in matters of great importance."

  7. Self-Control (Guk Gi)

  8. Without self-control, a Taekwon-Do student is just like any fighter in the street. Loss of self-control is disastrous both in sparring and personal affairs.
"The term of stronger is the person who wins over oneself rather than someone else", Lao Tzu.

  9. Indomitable Spirit (Baekjul Boolgool)

  10. A true student of Taekwon-Do will never give up, not even when faced with insurmountable odds. The most difficult goals can be achieved with indomitable spirit. That spirit in you. Which keeps you going. When really bad times strike. And push you down. And that spirit in you says I can do it with confidence. Bring that real warrior hidden in you.

  • Victory(Seungli)

  • Stay focus and see yourself as the winner , believe, preserve pain and go all out to bring victory.
During difficult moment during your journey to Taekwondo, one shall have in mind that Taekwondo training is not easy. We need to push ourself as much as we can and know that pain is temporary but glory last forever. When you work hard into something you put the believe in your heart and focus chances are high to get what you want. Victory after Hard Work.

      Taekwondo Oath

An oath is a solemn promise. A solemn promise, usually invoking a divine witness, regarding your future acts or behavior  A formal or legally binding pledge to do something.

The Taekwondo Oath is a pledge to be a defender of life, supportive of others, and a promoter of the Way.
The Taekwondo Oath is recited aloud at the beginning and end of every class in some schools . It instils a sense of responsibility and self-discipline as well as respect for one's self and others.
When reciting the Spirit of Taekwondo and the Taekwondo Oath, students should do so with heartfelt meaning and conviction.
They should be made aware of how Taekwondo can help them and others in their everyday life, not just in the Dojang(Formal training hall).

    The Taekwondo Oath is:

    1. I shall abide by the Spirit of Taekwondo.

    2. I shall comply with regulations and obey instructors.

    3. I shall respect instructors and seniors.

    4. We as students are united in mutual friendship.

    5. I shall never misuse Taekwondo.
