Free sparring is one of the best ways to put all the basic or advanced
techniques you have learned to-date, into real action. Keep in mine you
should approach free sparring with the true Martial Arts attitude by
respecting your opponent’s capabilities. Also, you must always strive
to put what you know to best use. Free sparring demands that you bring
together all that you have learned as for as blocking, punching and
kicking techniques, into your daily training. Continue your conscious
efforts to achieve the necessary speed, strength, balance and timing as
well as focus.
Due to the fact that uncontrollable attacking techniques to your opponent, can be lethal, always show good control when delivering your technique. One must deliver a shocking blow to a legal target area to score a point in a tournament event, but scoring points should also be scored on the basis of focus, precision, balance, accuracy and control of technique.
All competitors will wear the necessary protective gear prior to engaging in free sparring. The reasons are simple; they protect your vital body parts. Kicking to the head must always be performed in a controlling situation. The sparring rules must be adhered to. The Referee must always be shown respect, as they are there to help you by controlling the safety as well as fairness of the match.
One to three rounds constitute a match. Each round, depending on the age and level of competitor, are from one to three minutes in duration. There is a thirty-second rest period between rounds and up to sixty seconds for the advanced competitions. A Referee, three judges, a scorekeeper and a timekeeper manage each ring.
